A Hindu-born scholar who gave Gurbani to Odisha
Khalsa International Welfare Society sponsors Principal Bibi Sadhna Patri Ji in Odisha, India — a land blessed by the visit of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji. Born into a Hindu family, she learned Punjabi, wrote 14 Banis first in Punjabi and then in Odia, and translated the meaning of Gurbani into the Odia language so local families could read and understand Sikh scripture.
KIWS paid the full cost of this seva. Two complete sets were printed on high-quality paper and given free of charge across the state — to more than 60 Gurdwaras, Members of Parliament, Members of the Legislative Assembly, the Chief Minister’s office, libraries, universities, and colleges. Thousands of people have since taken Amrit and begun reading the Sikh Banis.
1,430-page Sri Guru Granth Sahib in Odia
The complete 1,430-page Sri Guru Granth Sahib in Odia has been ready for four years. KIWS is waiting for the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) in Amritsar to review the work, confirm that every line is correct, sign it, and grant permission for distribution.
Once that permission is given, the Odia Sri Guru Granth Sahib can reach homes, Gurdwaras, and institutions across Odisha and other Indian states where people read the Odia language. We continue to request the SGPC’s help and hope approval will come very soon, so this historic translation can serve the sangat without further delay.
